Last summer Montgenèvre created a Bike Park which now covers an area from a height of 2760m high down to 1860m, an amazing free ride of 1000m through some of the most extreme runs you can imagine.
Inaugurated on 1st July 2006, the Bike Park includes 8 permanent downhill trails, 3 fun areas and 2 free-ride areas.
For those wishing to go down rather than make the climb the permanent downhill slopes are reachable via gondola and chairlift.
Permanent Trails: from the top of the Chalmettes (at 2200 m) 7 trails are available (green, blue, red and black) corresponding to the ski run ease of run (easy, difficult, very difficult and extreme!!!),
3 fun areas: the “Southshore Prarial” aimed at experts and confident riders, the “Southshore Sestrière” for beginners. These fun areas include obstacles and roller-coasters, bridges, step-up and road-gaps…
Bike Park: this continues to evolve; more fun
areas are planned for 2008 / 9 on the existing trails, more technical
difficulties, and an extended area.
2007 saw the extension of the Bike Park to the Observatoire area, on the Gondrans side and the creation of an 8th green trail. This new run includes an initiation bridge as well as a free-ride zone easily accessible from the top of the Observatoire chairlift at 2450m.
The further extension of the Bike Park to the Italian part of the mountain, the Rocher de l’Aigle chairlift at 2760m, is open to walkers and mountain bikers. It leads to the Italian side of the mountain, Monts de la Lune, via the colletto verde, before heading back down to Clavière (Italy). On the French side, to go back down to Montgenèvre, a black trail has been created in the narrow Souréou valley, offering a free-ride space with a drop of nearly 1000m (2760-1860m).
Access to the Bike Park is FREE!
Each year Montgenèvre hosts the VTT Downhill - photographs by Ben Hodson show the extreme action. Whatever your skill level you are going to enjoy a holiday with Go-Montgenèvre.
