Travelling from the UK to The French Alps this Ski Season 21/22

Turn your trepidation of being able to travel again into excited anticipation!

As a family-run holiday and hospitality company based in Montgenèvre, we recently travelled (with family in tow) to and from the UK and we want to assure you that it is a very viable venture now, even with little ones. Overall it was a successful undertaking!

Having you back, with your family or friends, on the slopes, Hautes-Alpes, is our desire, and we want to encourage you to book your ski holiday without uncertainty and further delay, by offering you some guidance and information we trust you find helpful.

One thing we can guarantee is that once you reach magical Montgenèvre, you will be thrilled you made the journey. So, it’s time to make enchanting memories with loved ones, in the midst of magnificent mountains.

Andiamo!

Our particular journey back to the French Alps started in Standstead, aboard a Ryanair flight, bound for Turin. Turin Airport, although in Italy, is only a 1 hour and 20-minute drive from Montgenèvre. Monty is ideally positioned, right by the border between France and Italy. In fact, we consider it to be in a prime position for skiing as you have the best of both worlds, Hautes-Alps with direct access to Via Lattea ski domain on the Italian side.

Prior to leaving the UK, there is a quick online form to complete, vaccination records to show and a test to be taken (Antigen). Booking this for the airport was simple and cost about £40. We just arrived 30mins earlier than we would have normally. Getting through the airport’s official checks and passport control was smooth (like skis on fresh powder on a bluebird day!) Interestingly we were able to use the e-Passport for EU gates still (Although we had British Passports). French connection

Of course, you can travel directly to France, perhaps making it a road trip, as part of your adventures, or a flight to Grenoble (recommended) with a transfer to Montgenèvre around 2 and a half hours and slightly quicker if you take the toll road.

Speaking of transfers, should you want to bypass public transport and avoid unnecessary stress and prolonged journey time, we propose that you book a transfer - available from any airport, train station or city location – with Snow Cab. We can help you with that too. Snow Cab are established transfer specialists in the region, who will make the trip to your final destination, safe, comfortable and worry-free, and no journey is out of reach.

Make tracks

Another way of getting to The Alps is by train. Take the TGV, French high-speed train via the Channel Tunnel to Paris then on to Oulx, which is a mere 30 minutes from Montgenèvre. Or try a new experience on an overnight train to Briançon. Your transfer with Snow Cab to Montgenèvre is a short trip from just 15 minutes, depending on where your booked accommodation is situated. They will literally drop you at the door of your holiday lodgings in the Alps, whether it be chalet, apartment or hotel.

Go Montgenèvre

We understand the importance of a winning family holiday and if we can help you make that happen, it would be our pleasure. We are definitely all about creating defining moments and unforgettable memories for our clients and their loved ones.

Oh, and lastly, a few all-time hot tips to keep your journey cool, calm and collected - especially if you are travelling with your family (and especially with young members)… you can do without many things but not these!

  • Have snacks to hand at all times – it can be the difference between a melt-down and continuing the adventure in relative peace!
  • Your phone battery may also need re-charging, so bring battery pack and/or charging leads, to avoid the disaster of having vaccine passport/plane ticket/onward journey bookings on a device that is going flat.
  • Ski socks in your hand luggage – because your transfer with Snow Cab can include a stop at the ski shop in the village if you have booked ski equipment with us. Alternatively, just wear a nice long (only a little thick) pair of socks.

Go Montgenèvre has been around since 2006 and was awarded the Best French Alps Holiday Agent from the Global Hospitality awards in 2019. We know the area like the back of one’s hand and we know how to do holidays in the Alps.
