Experience the summer sun in Montgenevre

Category: Seasons

Have you only ever visited the Alps in the Winter? Do you go home after your ski holiday and wonder what those incredible mountains hold during the Summer? Here’s a little insight into what the beautiful village of Montgenevre has to offer during those warmer months…

After the snow has melted in the late Spring the mountains reveal their luscious greenery hiding underneath the powder, the sun starts to shine and the magic of Summer starts to appear. Vivid colours of wild flowers pop up through the grass and the trees shine brighter than ever in Winter.

My favourite activity in the Summer is to explore the mountain by foot, there are multiple hiking trails for all abilities, some of which are completely covered during Winter, you wouldn’t even know they existed! Those are the hidden gems. Depending on your ability and if you have a thirst for knowledge, you can take a guide with you around the mountain who will give you tips of secret places to explore and even tell you about the nature/animals and history of Montgenevre and its surrounding area. To explore those higher parts of the mountain there are a couple of lifts open during the high season to give you that first boost up to begin your day. Alternatively take the challenge and start in the village and on your way back down stop off at Les Terrasses restaurant (linking to Chalvet gondala) for a bite to eat or drink; enjoy their gorgeous terrace in the sunshine overlooking our famous Janus mountain and the village below.

For those wanting to experience the mountain at a quicker pace, there are multiple opportunities for biking. Whether you prefer road cycling, bike parks or downhill, Montgenevre can provide it all. Again, take it as you wish - Montgenevre boasts its ability to suit all levels when it comes to mountain sports, and the bike trails are no exception. Pop your bike on the back of the lift to take you to the mountain top, and go and explore! Guides are also available for bike touring, the high level of expertise and knowledge in the village can provide advice and assistance for all activities. ESF’s own, Florian, takes his expertise to snow sports in the winter and mountain biking in the summer, so pop in and have a chat with Sensations Montagne about how he can help you ride the mountain to your hearts content. Tours include day trips with lunch, and sunset tours with aperitifs.

(The tourism office provides maps for all bike and walking trails.)

Family fun can be had by all in Montgenevre’s Summer season, the weather is its best mid-June to mid-August where you can paddle or kayak through the lakes next to the golf course, grab an ice cream on the beach area and play volleyball in the sand, or take a trip to Montgenevre’s largest pool and spa Durancia to soak up the rays and enjoy a dip in the outdoor pool.

A great way to enjoy all the fun that the village offers throughout the Summer is through the Pass Montgenevre, see our website for further details or for more information, contact our team or book here.
