In the heart of the Italian and French Alps towers the La Voie Lactee, as it is known in France and in Italy, the Via Lattea - the famous ‘Milky Way’ skiing domain. It is made up of a series of communes and ski resorts spanning the Italian and French Alps with over 400km of interconnected slopes that cross the borderline of Italy and France at Claviere on the Italian side and Montgenèvre in France. It is in fact the largest expanse of skiing territory in Europe and is so vast that it feels as if it reflects the very length and breadth of the night skies, milky way.

Take it from us - Go Montgenèvre - having been established here since 2006 as mountain holiday specialists, Montgenèvre is an extra special place.

ESF, École Du Ski Français, is a renowned French-based ski school with over 220 locations spread far and wide across the French Alps.

What is even more impressive is that they have been teaching skiing in our valley since 1934. Combine that with the fact that Montgenèvre literally put skiing on the map, as the very first ski resort, in 1907, and you can’t get any more original and authentic than that! It goes without saying that skiing - in Montgenèvre, amid the mighty massifs and steep history - is not just skiing…

Montgenèvre might seem like a mouthful especially when you have to put on your best French accent, but it’s ok, c’est bon, it’s easier to say than you think!

One thing that is for certain amidst the toing and froing of restrictions and travel bans - the magnifique mountains of Montgenèvre continue to stand high and mighty (1.860m to be exact) and are long awaiting your arrival. And the good news is, it is again possible for you to travel from the UK to France. Make no mistake, now is the time to make a break for it and make your way to The Continent.

A message about changing rules for guests from the UK.

Its ideal geographical location and unique orientation, Hautes-Alpes, means that this special place holds the magical meteorological recipe for many sunny days, even during winter - a minimum of 300 days of the year, in fact, which is a très bon Alps average.

Whether you are considering a comeback or plan to fall in love (and you will!) for the first time, with the Alps - a holiday in the mountains, Hautes-Alpes, is a favourable option. With us as your British French-Alps based holiday specialists - with our ears to the ground, literally, at 1,860m altitude - you are in for a treat.

A few minutes from Montgenèvre lies the enchanting little hamlet of Les Alberts, which forms part of the district, commune of Montgenèvre. Montgenèvre and Les Alberts are linked geographically and historically.

Being tucked away in the Haute-Alpes at 1,860m does not deter from the fact that Montgenèvre is easily accessible from the nearest airport in the region. Montgenèvre is practically situated just 1km away from the Italian borderline, which makes the nearest airport across the border in Turin, the capital city of Piedmont in Northern Italy.

Just as Montgenèvre is ideally situated - at 1,860m, in France, near the border of Italy - so too is Claviere, except it sits on the Italian side of the borderline, at 1,760m.

It’s hard to fault this idyllic village. You can’t quite help but fall in love with this Haute-Alpes gem from the moment you set foot, or ski, onto its snowy terrain. The fact that the village of Montgenèvre has been around for more than a century - its village charm comes naturally, without pretence and literally oozes a sunny disposition on most days.

Imagine you are decompressing in a hot hub (jacuzzi) revived and relaxed, surrounded by snow, the stars are out on form, and you are drinking French Champagne or Italian Prosecco – the choice is yours! Now close your eyes and take yourself there for a minute… or a while.
