A few minutes from Montgenèvre lies the enchanting little hamlet of Les Alberts, which forms part of the district, commune of Montgenèvre. Montgenèvre and Les Alberts are linked geographically and historically. Les Alberts is nestled at the foot of Col de Montgenèvre and perfectly positioned as the south end starting point of the Vallée de la Clarée – a region of undulating, unspoilt landscapes, encompassed by majestic mountains and a scattering of picturesque, traditional villages along the way.
The La Durance, the principal river in the Hautes-Alpes, with its origins in the Montgenèvre region, joins with The River Clarée, very near to Les Alberts. Not only do the rivers unite at this special point, but so too can lovers, on the ‘Pont des amoureux’, lover’s bridge.
A highlight of the area, in Winter, is the opportunity to ski du fond, cross-country, on the ‘Ski Nordique’, Nordic ski domain, which starts from Montgenèvre and takes you in either direction: towards Claviere and the Milky Way, Italy or through Les Alberts via Alpine trails of Sestriere, with which brings more classic cross-country skiing, linking Les Alberts to Névache. This ski area is 80km all-in-all and with the most part being around Les Alberts.
In Summer, definitely head to the Vallée de la Clarée - to explore, discover and exercise, and feel alive in the éclatant summer sun, breathing in the pure mountain air! Local festivities in the summer months, Hautes-Alpes include the popular ‘Fête du Pain’ – the 34th Les Alberts Bread Festival, in fact, which takes place in the Church square (this year it is replanned for Saturday, 7 August 2021).
