Family-run Go Montgenèvre takes on the giants of the ski industry in the 2026 World Ski Awards

A small, family-owned operator based in France's birthplace of alpine skiing has been nominated for World's Best Ski Tour Operator to France 2026 — going head to head with TUI, Inghams, Crystal and Sunweb.

Go Montgenèvre, run by the Hodson family from the resort of Montgenèvre since 2006, is one of fifteen companies shortlisted in the category. It is, by some distance, the smallest — and the only one on the list whose team actually lives in the resort it sells.

The World Ski Awards, the industry's global benchmark, are decided by public vote. This year Go Montgenèvre is nominated in two categories, including World's Best Ski Tour Operator to France — the fourth consecutive year it has earned a place in the France category, consistently alongside operators many times its size. The pull is a way of doing things the volume operators have largely left behind: skiers who book a holiday speak to people who know the mountain by name, not a call centre reading from a screen.

"We're up against companies that move more guests in a weekend than we do in a season, and we wouldn't have it any other way," said Ben Hodson, CEO & co-founder, Go Montgenèvre. "When you call us, someone who skis these slopes picks up the phone. We know which chalet gets the morning sun and which run suits a nervous first-timer, because this is our home, not a destination on a brochure."

The family knows what a World Ski Award looks like. Its sister brand Snow Cab, the group's resort transfer service, was named World's Best Ski Transfer Operator 2023 — a title that gives the Hodsons a pedigree most of this year's nominees can't claim.

Montgenèvre holds a particular place in the sport. France's oldest ski resort, it hosted one of the country's first international skiing competitions in 1907 and is regarded as the cradle of French alpine skiing. Perched on the French-Italian border, it gives guests direct access to the vast Milky Way ski area spanning two countries — and has been named an official venue for the 2030 Winter Olympics, bringing the Games back to where French skiing began.

The winner will be announced at the World Ski Awards ceremony later this year. Public voting is open now.
