Snow forecast Montgenèvre
Montgenèvre Snow Report & Forecast
Montgenèvre sits at 1 860 m on the French‑Italian border. This small mountain village is also France’s oldest ski resort: Norwegian officers demonstrated skiing here in 1895 and the first international ski‑jumping competition in 1907 led to its official founding. Today it links into the Via Lattea (Milky Way) ski area with over 400 km of interconnected pistes yet retains the feel of a traditional Hautes‑Alpes village.

Why trust our snow reports?
Generic weather sites often ignore altitude and micro‑climate. Our reports combine official ski‑patrol data, automatic weather stations and trusted models to give you snow depths at different elevations and honest descriptions of piste and off‑piste conditions. We also track historical snowfall; Montgenèvre averages 293 cm of snow each year over 21 snowfall days, with the snowiest months typically January and February. When the season starts, we update this page daily with new snowfall totals, lift openings and visibility notes.
A note from history and geography
Montgenèvre’s high‑altitude pass has long been a strategic route; medieval pilgrims and merchants followed the Via Francigena here on their way to Rome. Today, those same valleys channel winter storms, helping the resort record a longer snow season and higher snowfall than its neighbours. North‑facing slopes rise another 800 m above the village, and the combination of Atlantic and Mediterranean weather systems delivers reliable snow.
