Local restaurants in Montgenevre offer some of the best Apres ski in the Alps

Monty is famous for wide open pistes, no crowds and some of the best snow fall anywhere in the Alps. In fact last season we were voted third best ski resort for families.

The resort sits at 1860m one of the highest resorts in the Southern Alps, with miles of groomers perfect for learning to ski, and ideal for people skiing with young families. It’s the oldest resort in the Alps and the birthplace of the Ecole du Ski Francais or ESF.

What people don’t always know is the area is also one of the best off piste areas anywhere in the world. Don’t believe us? Ask Candide Thovex. He spent six weeks of last season skiing and filming in the quiet resort, well away from the crowds and tracked out lines of the bigger free ride areas like Chamonix.

Once the skiing is finished and you’ve had your lunch time fix at the constantly evolving newly opened Terasse De Montgenevre, thoughts turn to Apres activities, and The Graal or Ceasars Restaurant.

Ceasar’s doesn’t have the live music and cocktail selection that bars like Graal or La Tourmente do, but it does have some of the most tasty and down to earth local food available anywhere in Monty.

Miche and Stephanie are a much-loved husband and wife team, and are genuinely the heart and soul of the village in Winter. Together with a mostly English waiting and kitchen team they run this cosy local restaurant like it’s their front room. They cook down to earth food with an authentic alpine vibe, with the warmest of welcomes and they’ve got some of the best steak and pizzas for miles (and that’s not bad considering we’re so close to Italy). It’s not a bar, but it’s got plenty of atmosphere, and it’s always chock full of locals and Seasonnaires.

Rumour has it that Miche is very fond of the local herbs. So much so he makes his own Genepi from the flowers of the Genepi that grows locally above the last few metres of the treeline. Be careful though. You’ve been warned. It’s free flowing and local legend says it has magical powers…

The menu includes their famous stone baked pizzas made right in front of you in the dining room, and a traditional menu of Ceasars Tartiflette and all the famous Savoyarde classics, including Fondue and Raclette.

Try the ‘Davey Special’ for a little taste of Glasgow in the Alps, or maybe don’t…
