Montgenèvre offers excellent holidays both summer and winter. Right on the Italian border, Montgenèvre dates back to pre-Roman times, being on an ancient pass between Italy and France. The charm of the village is complimented by its position in an area that boasts 300 days sunshine a year. Its height means the snow comes earlier and stays later.
Montgenèvre has all the facilities of a modern resort whilst retaining its traditional charm. The restaurants and bars in the village offer a range of both traditional mountain fare and popular dishes. These are complimented by the local shopping and weekly market.
The ski slopes at Montgenèvre are particularly well-suited to beginners and intermediates. A cheap day extension gives you access to 400km of slopes in the Milky Way.
Montgenèvre has a total of 59 slopes, covering 100km of pistes and served by 38 lifts. Of the pistes, 25 are beginner runs, 23 are intermediate runs and 11 are advanced runs. The ski resort has several runs of decent length, the longest being 7km.
The winter season this year at Montgenèvre runs from 13 December 2014 to 18 April 2015. The ski resort has an excellent snow sure record. Last year, despite poor snowfalls around the Alps, Montgenevre kept its piste in excellent condition up until mid April - outlasting nearly all other resorts in Europe.
Some of the recent Montgenevre statistics:
- Consistently in the top 6 resorts in France for snow depth and quality.
- First to open last to close.
- Achieved the international conservation mark for resorts.
- Over 50000m² given over to nursery area.
- Rated one of the best mixed ability resorts in Europe.

There is nothing more beautiful then waking up after a night of snow and seeing the entire mountain covered in powder then realising you are in montgenèvre and powder fields, cliffs, gullies and tree runs are just waiting to be carved up.
Montgenevre is home to some of France's best natural free ride. There is something for all levels and it is always worth hiring a guide for the day from our local ski schools (may we recommend Eric) to help you enjoy the mountain to its fullest.

Runs for off-piste experts
And for those that still want more

Obviously with Free-ride there are risks involved and adventurers should always remember to never go alone, always tell someone where you are going and how long it will take, make sure you have at least 2 avalanche transmitters on your person, you have your avalanche pack with you including a shovel and a probe and you consult an off-piste professional on your itineraries and on the snow conditions.
With all freestyle tricks, stunts, rails and slams there are risks involved. Always wear protective gear, especially a quality helmet. Remember to never go alone, always tell someone where you are going and never push yourself too far beyond your abilities. Always check landings and make sure you give other riders enough space and time when hitting obstacles and jumps.
